Collecting

I collect stuff, see below

Physical Stamps

I’ve decided to take up a hobby that my Dad used to do, and that is stamp collecting. I have a few of his stamp collection books, which have UK stamps, however I thought I’d start with NZ stamps.

I like the early stamps, the really early ones – mostly had a queens head on them, but the ones that interested me, where the first ‘pictorial’ stamps, which were released in 1898, so I thought I’d start with them.

Digital Collectables

Veve Digital Collectables

In addition to physical stamps, I also want to collect digital stamps or NFT’s. I’ve settled on the platform Veve as the NFT marketplace, which is a little different from most like Opensea, as it’s a closed environment (for now). They started selling USPS digital stamps, and they have some large brands such as Disney and Marvel, even Star Trek.

They are a NZ company founded by a chap called David Yu.

What is an NFT?

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique identification codes and metadata that distinguish them from each other.

Unlike cryptocurrencies, they cannot be traded or exchanged at equivalency. This differs from fungible tokens like cryptocurrencies, which are identical to each other and, therefore, can serve as a medium for commercial transactions.

I may collect the physical version of the digital stamps as well…

Books

I love books, old and new. So I’ve been collecting them for a while as well… I especially like the fiction ‘classic’s’ books and also enjoy more contemporary books, mostly non-fiction. I also have a collection of astronomy (as I’m an amateur astronomer) and science related books.
